My new #tarot reading room at Antiques at 9 South Main Street in #Medford- it’s tiny, but it’s all mine! So excited!!
btw- this was my favorite Halloween costume ever! Go figure!
Halloween Tarot Spread-
I’ve always loved Halloween- it’s so liberating to select a costume and have permission to be anyone or anything I want, just for a day!
And for that reason, I wonder if a person’s Halloween costume might reveal a little bit more about them than we may think- who they wish they could be, their fantasies, or parts of themselves that they have repressed or kept out of public view.
Just for fun, I put together this little tarot spread, “What Does Your Halloween Costume Reveal About You?”
Test it out and let me know what you think- and Happy Halloween!
Card 1- You- this card represents the face you show to the world day-to-day, how you see yourself, and how others perceive you in your everyday, real life.
Card 2- Your Costume- This card explores your fantasies, telling us who you would be if you could live another life just for a day.
Card 3- What Your Costume Reveals About You- This card gives deeper insight into the part of yourself represented by card 2. Why do you think you fantasize about this? What part of yourself does this costume or character represent? Is this an aspect of yourself that you share with others? If so, how? If not, why do you think it has been repressed?
Card 4- Advice- This card suggests practical ways you may bring some aspects of this costume/character into your everyday life.
Sample Reading (using the Oracle of the Shapeshifters by Lucy Cavendish, with artwork by Jasmine Becket-Griffith.)
Card 1- Two Choices (You)- This card represents someone who is blessed with many wonderful opportunities and options. However, it also suggests that this person is fairly indecisive and has lost out of some great things in her life because she failed to decide between them.
Card 2- Elizabeth & the Lion (Your Costume)- This card represents a female who embraces her power and isn’t afraid to be bold, assert herself or take a stand. (And in fact, this person will be dressing up as Cleopatra for this Halloween-seems to fit!).
Card 3- Little Red Riding Hood (What Your Costume Reveals About You)- This card is about playing the victim and taking a passive stance when it comes to our own lives. It asks us to take responsibility for our choices (or lack thereof in this case) and own our power. Make the choices that are right for you and don’t let fear our outside opinions affect you. It’s time to get in the driver’s seat and take charge of where you go from here.
Card 4- Advice- Quetzalcoatl and the Priestess of Time- This card’s message is that the time to act is now. It reinforces the messages in Card 3 with a bit more urgency. It’s a reminder of the passage of time- and asks that you waste not another moment acting as though you are a passive bystander to your own life. Just like the priestess depicted on the card, you are extremely powerful- own it!
A quick video I put together sharing a tarot reading I did for myself that shows how the cards can be used to connect to our dreams and explore the subconscious.
Yes, it’s an absolutely gorgeous deck. I’ve been working with it this morning, and I have a feeling it’s going to be one of my favorites.
I’m not sure where you are located, but the deck is available here in the US- I believe amazon is the cheapest- http://www.amazon.com/Mary-el-Tarot-cards-Marie-White/dp/0764340611/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379249697&sr=8-1&keywords=mary-el+tarot
They are also available via the publisher at- http://www.schifferbooks.com/index.php?main_page=product_book_info&cPath=958_1031&products_id=4816
The deck creator also sells them from her Etsy shop- http://www.etsy.com/listing/115762275/mary-el-tarot-book-and-cards-set-direct?ref=shop_home_active
As for where I recommend getting decks in general, I often find amazon is the most reasonable for current/new decks. I buy a lot of self-published decks on Etsy and some out-of-print decks on eBay (but please do your homework before bidding on any deck on eBay- I find that the majority are seriously overpriced. But you can find a good deal from time-to-time).
You can occasionally find some good discount decks at- http://www.discountnewagebooks.com/Tarot-Decks_c_57.html
And finally, for the most comprehensive catalog of decks- including some rare- I’d suggest The Tarot Garden- http://www.tarotgarden.com/
Hope that helps! Have a great day!
It’s Christmas in September for this Tarot Girl Next Door! My two new tarot decks arrived today- The Mary-El Tarot and The Healing Tarot: 78 Ways to Wellness. And I have to give a big thank you to everyone who participated in my little survey a few weeks ago. You guys ranked these as the top two among the decks I was considering, and I’m so glad you did!
Based on first impressions alone, both decks exceeded my expectations. And I’m absolutely blown away by the art work in The Mary-El Tarot- pics don’t do the cards justice!
Need to give them both a few trial runs and once I’ve broken them in, they will be added to my deck list online and available for readings- likely in a week or so.
Thanks again for your help!

Description: I just uploaded an introduction to my new video series Tarot FAQs, where I will address common misperceptions about tarot that may prevent more people from exploring this amazing tool for personal and spiritual development. I hope to address real questions from every day people who are curious about tarot but aren’t sure exactly what it’s about. My answers are my opinion and come from the perspective of an every day person who was exposed to tarot by chance- and went from a curious skeptic to a professional tarot card reader.
So, please email me your tarot questions- firstname.lastname@example.org
